2. SLS Reviews Intake Form and Determines How to Assist
Once we have reviewed your intake form, we will contact you if any additional information is needed and then determine how we can assist with your matter. This decision is based on a few factors including, but not limited to, our current caseload and case intake priorities, the area of law involved, and the type of question(s) asked.
a. Conflicts of Interest: If your case involves a conflict of interest, we can typically provide resources and referrals which will be handled via email.
b. Legal Advice and/or Resources via Email: Some student inquiries are handled entirely through email communication to provide legal advice and/or resources on a matter.
c. Attorney Consultation: If applicable, we will send you a scheduling link for an attorney consultation. You will receive an email once your appointment request is confirmed and reminder emails ahead of the appointment.
If you cannot attend your appointment or need to reschedule, please contact our office as soon as possible. Please bring any documents related to your legal issue to the appointment. If you have an upcoming court date, please bring the court paperwork. Documents can be electronic if you'd like to bring your computer or tablet. You may be asked to submit your documents through a secure client portal for review at your appointment depending on their format.

Once we have reviewed the intake form, we will contact you if we need additional information or if we are unable to complete your notary request. We will email you a scheduling link with available notary appointment times so that you can request the date and time that works best for you. You will receive an email once your appointment request is confirmed.
3. Attend Notary Appointment
Please bring your valid, unexpired photo identification (drivers license, state-issued ID, passport) to your appointment. There is no fee for student, faculty, and staff notary services.
Please bring your document(s) to be notarized and do not sign them before your appointment. You must sign the document(s) in front of the notary. All other fields in the document must be completed before your appointment. Non-attorney notaries cannot provide legal advice about your document or help you complete the fields.
There are additional notaries on campus who may be able to assist you. You may also be able to get your documents notarized at your local bank or a UPS/FedEx store location. You may also be able to utilize an e-notary and can find an e-notary using the NC Secretary of State’s online search tool.
